Excellent article. I like your point about the parasitic relationship. For celebrities, there is a real danger to assuming any role where you playing a nice, loving, giving character. Although it’s a role, the public loves you for that role, not for the real you. So the private Ellen is not a nice person even though the public Ellen is, that celebrity always risks being exposed. It’s always tougher on celebrities who assume “nice” qualities in their role. Consider this: Tom Hanks makes a scene at a restaurant. We’re shocked. Steven Seagal does the same thing. No one is surprised.
