We often select doctors based on their reputations or on misconceptions about what really matters, the Harvard physician and economist explains. But research indicates there might be a better way. Dr. Jena explains some studies he’s done himself, and speaks with other experts in the field.
“Sometimes the traits people prize as the hallmarks of a good doctor — the training program, years of experience, where they’re from — do matter,” he says. “But sometimes those assumptions are wrong.”
