Laura, terrific article. Well organized and explained concisely and cogently. Connected to your reason # 1 is the potential damage done to the self-esteem of many white people. They tend to overestimate their own contributions to their success and underestimate the advantage that white privilege bestows on them. Everyone wants to be that underdog that succeeds. It’s like that old adage about “starting life on third base. “ Sure, you scored a run just like the person who started life in the batters box. You can’t take that achievement away. But it was much harder for the people who didn’t have your massive advantage.
